Corporation tax is payable on taxable profits if you are a limited company, or an unincorporated association such as a club or co-operative. Corporation tax is calculated as a percentage of those profits, that percentage is known as the Corporation Tax Rate. The Corporation tax rate tends to remain steady but is reviewed each tax year and can be changed as required by the UK Government to support UK taxation and spending policy.
Foreign companies with an office or branch in the UK are liable for Corporation Tax on the profits from activities in the UK.
In the July 2015 budget the Chancellor announced rates of 19% for 2017 and 18% by 2020, these rates are included in the calculator tables. In the years preceding 2015, different corporation tax rates and thresholds were used and based on the amount of profit.
